Influencing skills for architects

This course will show you the importance of personal and inter-personal skills (the so-called ‘soft skills’) for your success as an Enterprise Architect and give you tools and hands-on practice to start improving your potential to make a lasting impact on the organisation(s) you work for.

You will learn the basics of Emotional Intelligence and how to improve this in yourself and others; practice your ability to focus, observe and empathise; practice your listening skills; get a new perspective on how to deal with change resistance; practice a personalised approach to stakeholder engagement; use theatrical techniques to make your presentations memorable experiences; and learn the basic steps towards becoming a trusted advisor and partner to the business.

This course will be a combination of theory and practice. You will be expected to work together with other participants, using a mix of your own stories and experiences, examples and cases to bring the material to life.

  8. The steps to take to build and maintain trust inside your organisation

Your highly experienced learning guide will use their own experience as a successful enterprise architect to teach you how to become a more impactful architect by improving your personal and inter-personal skills.

You will be expected to participate in individual and team exercises to apply the knowledge you gain through the course.  Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, but make sure to have a lot of fun in the process, too. Some of this material is seriously funny!

You will have to do some homework before you come to the course, so that you have sufficient background information about your current or past stakeholders to use in some of the exercises.

You will be asked to listen, talk and present to each other to help you learn how to communicate effectively with the people in your organisation.

You will take away frameworks, models and examples for you to continue to practice when you leave the course.

Expect to spend 2hrs with your coach post the course who will meet you to offer support.
